Meditation is one of the most amazing and effective ways to overcome your overwhelm and find your calm. And I'm not just telling you what I've read about and researched -- I know this is true because it's a method I use daily to find my own calm. 

I've been where you are: stressed out, overwhelmed, wanting to make a change...

It all started back in 2014, a few months after I had my daughter, Nailah. I was trying to balance being a new mama, a wife, and an entrepreneur -- and I felt like I didn't have enough help from my husband, Chris. On top of feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, and frustrated, I felt guilty for feeling like I couldn't do it all. It eventually got so bad, that one day, Chris texted me from work (because we were barely communicating) and asked if I still wanted to be with him.  Yes, I was frustrated. Yes, I was overwhelmed. Yes, I was miserable and disappointed. But I love him, and I definitely didn’t want to leave.

That was my wake-up call, my a-ha moment as Oprah calls it. I knew I had to do something different. I had to do something to feel better, not only mentally and emotionally but physically, too. So, I started working on myself: I journaled to figure out what I wanted and wrote new affirmations around how I wanted to feel and who I wanted to be. I also searched for more strategies online (because that's what I do), and that ultimately led me to re-starting my meditation practice. And as cliche as it sounds -- it changed my life! 

By incorporating meditation and affirmations (and not to mention other methods like yoga and self-care), I:

  • Stress and worry less
  • Have learned to be present and live in the moment
  • Go with the flow of life more often
  • Have created a more positive mindset 
  • Have manifested and created things I desire in my life

3 Types of Mediation:

When practicing mindful meditation, you watch and focus on your breath as a point of focus. The goal is to observe your physical sensations, thoughts, etc. in a detached way in order to gain awareness and insight. With this method, you're required to notice whatever you're aware of without changing it or judging yourself.

Visualization while meditating is not only a great way to create calm while also helping you magnetize and attract the people, resources, and opportunities you need to make your intentions and goals a reality. This practice activates the creative power of your subconscious mind. When you constantly visualize your goals as complete, it creates a conflict in your subconscious mind between what you're visualizing and what you currently have. Your subconscious then works to resolve this conflict by turning your current reality into your new vision.

An affirmation is "a statement of your goal or desire now realized in the present time." (Jack Canfield). They are statements you can write down and repeat regularly so you bombard your subconscious mind with the thoughts, images, and feelings you would be experiencing if your goal was complete already. They work because your subconscious doesn't know the difference between what's happening now and your imagination; so, when you affirm things while meditating, your planting new beliefs in your mind -- and your brain will begin to find ways to make these beliefs a reality.

Why affirmations?

  • Helps you set intentions.
  • Become more aware of your thoughts, being able to let go of the ones that don't serve you
  • Allows you to focus on the positive and keep things in perspective
  • Helps attract the things you want to you
